New Dates For NBHA Vegas Super Show

New Dates For NBHA Vegas Super Show

July 6-10, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 19, 2011 1:00 p.m. EST The National Barrel Horse Association and the South Point Hotel, Casino and Equestrian Center have been closely monitoring the recent outbreak of the Equine Herpes virus (EHV-1). After seeking advice from appropriate official agencies we have jointly made the decision to postpone the Professional's Choice NBHA Super Show that was scheduled to take place June 1-5 at the South Point Equestrian Center. The show in its same format and schedule will be held July 6-10. The South Point Hotel staff stands ready to move any existing reservations to the new date or to issue refunds to those people who have obligations that will not allow them to come in July. Anyone that has made Hotel reservations simply needs to call the South Point Hotel at 866-791-7626 or email reservations@southpointcasino.com to cancel or confirm their reservations for the July event. Please read the following instructions carefully regarding your entries:
  1. If you are already entered in the Vegas show and wish to come in July- do nothing!!!!
  2. If you are already entered in the Vegas show and wish to draw out, you must notify us by fax (706 823-3700) or by email (nbhashow@nbha.com) no later than June 10th. You will receive a full refund.
  3. If you have already sent in a refund request you must reconfirm this by fax (706 823- 3700) or by email (nbhashow@nbha.com) no later than June 10th. You will receive a full refund.
Anyone wishing to enter the July show that did not pre register may enter as a late entry on site in Las Vegas. The NBHA and the South Point Casino, Hotel and Equestrian Center regret any inconvenience or confusion this change may create. We look forward to seeing you in July. Travel safely

EHV-1

The State Veterinarian has confirmed that two horses that were competing at the Western Nationals Cutting Show at the Golden Spike Coliseum , are confirmed as having EHV-1. The show was held from April 29-May 8, 2011. This is a very dangerous neurologic form of this virus that more frequently causes rhinopneumonitis (upper respiratory form) or abortion.  Currently none of the rhino vaccines are protective for this form of the virus.
The state officials are currently deciding what restrictions to apply to contain the potential outbreak.  Colorado is experiencing a more severe outbreak and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University has been closed due to it.
If you have had your horses to this event or have had them at that facility during this period it is advisable to watch them closely for signs of the disease and call us immediately if noticed.  The Golden Spike facility is not under quarantine at this time, but I would advise not going there until we get further information on the outbreak.  Additionally, any shows or events that would include horses from this show should consider postponing until a safe incubation period is over.  This is 28 days according to the state veterinarian's office.
